There are many benefits that go hand-in-hand with upgrading your HVAC system, especially in a stadium. As well as providing a comfortable, optimum temperature for your players and visitors, there are numerous health benefits to upgrading your system and ensuring the best heating, ventilation and air conditioning for the space.
We covered the reasons why you should consider upgrading your stadium HVAC system in a recent blog post. Improved comfort control, better air flow and quality, lower noise pollution, reduced environmental impact, and a longer system lifespan all featured in our rundown. However, upgrading your HVAC unit could actually work wonders for the health of your pitch too. Read on to discover just how your HVAC system could make the grass greener in your stadium.
Poor ventilation is bad news for your pitch
There are many aspects of your stadium that must be maintained to ensure the best temperatures and light levels for successful grass growth. As we’ve explored, HVAC systems have many functions in modern day stadiums. The ventilation of your stadium plays an important role in turf health but is often overlooked by stadium owners and managers. STRI’s Head of Sports Surface Design, Dr Richard Gibbs, explains:
“Achieving optimum seating capacity and spectator comfort can be at the expense of the turf. Low light levels, poor ventilation and cooler soil temperatures cause poorer growth in seasonally shaded parts of a pitch. Furthermore, stadiums are expensive to build and maintain, and many have to operate as fully multi-use venues for economic survival. This includes having to change the playing surface from one use to another – for example by hosting non-sporting events like concerts or grand opening ceremonies for which the turfgrass surface has no practical benefit. So, whilst the need to pay attention to television, spectator and corporate requirements on the one hand underpins a successful stadium, on the other hand the simple fact remains that there still needs to be a sustainable rectangle of turf as the focal point of the stadium bowl.”
By upgrading your HVAC system you could cultivate the sustainable turfed area needed in every stadium, facilitating the ventilation, and stabilising the soil temperatures required to ensure growth.
